Systems Design Engineer - Senior/PrincipalMACOM is seeking a talented experienced Validation Engineer to join our validation engineering team within R&D Engineering at Newport Beach location. Our product lines include high speed (GHz) ICs for optical media access and signal transport. These products are tested by bench-top lab equipment in block, chip and system level before moving to production. This role is to validate/verify the part based on the data sheet/standards specifications and find issues and bugs to modify the future designs.Job Description:Validation of high-speed optical and electrical interfaces (optical lanes, SerDes, PCIe, Ethernet).

Experienced with:NRZ/PAMx BER testing and eye diagram analysisLink margining and stress testingStandard compliance point testingDe-embedding SI effects of high-speed interconnectsExperience validating optical electrical devices used for data center optical modules and high-speed interfaces such as TIAs, Drivers and EqualizersFamiliarity with relevant standards is highly regardedValidation and design verification of TIA performance, including:Bandwidth, gain, noise, linearity, and stabilitySensitivity and overload behaviorJitter and signal-to-noise impacts on optical data pathsExperience correlating test results to design simulation resultsStrong understanding of end-to-end system architecture, spanning optical front ends, high-speed electrical interfaces, firmware, drivers, and operating systemsOwnership of validation activities across DVT, PVT and debug activitiesDefining the Hardware requirements and be able to run debugging of hardware–firmware–DUTDevelopment and ownership of automated validation frameworks for validation plan of record:Strong scripting skills in C#, MATLAB, PythonAutomation of test execution, data capture, result analysis, and reportingStrong root-cause analysis skills spanning analog, digital, software, and system domainsProficient use of lab equipment including:High-bandwidth oscilloscopesBER testers and optical test equipmentVector Network AnalyzerJob Qualifications/Requirements:BS and 5 years' experience, or MS and 3 years' experience and education in areas related to the disciplines listed above.Ability to reproduce, isolate, and drive closure of complex cross-functional issues.Experience validating devices against specification and compliance requirements.Support for qualification, manufacturing handoff, and volume deployment readiness.Ownership of validation strategies, coverage plans, and risk assessment.Clear communication through bug tracking, dashboards, and technical reports.Mentorship of junior engineers and leadership in technical decision-making.Ability and willingness to learn and master new disciplines and knowledge, and to work outside fields of current expertise.Excellent communications skills and the ability to thoroughly document all work performed to a degree sufficient to pass off to sustaining engineers for long term support, and to contract manufacturers for volume production.Working knowledge in most or all the following disciplines:Mechanical design of precision mechanismsOptical system design, basic geometric opticsElectronics Design, cabling, instrumentationDatabase design and usageSoftware design, architectureFabrication methods for electro/mechanical/optical systemsThe salary range for this position is $84,000 – $166,000.
