Our comradery and community involvement help us cultivate our mission, creating a stronger and more dynamic team while working together to help improve the lives of our clients.Position SummaryAs a VA Attorney at Disability Law Group, you will represent veterans seeking disability benefits across all levels of the VA process, including hearings before the Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA). You'll collaborate closely with Case Managers, Intake Specialists, and internal leadership to deliver effective, timely, and empathetic legal representation.
You'll handle a manageable caseload (~300–350 cases), using advanced technology tools, a supportive team model, and regular coaching.Key ResponsibilitiesRepresent veterans in disability benefits claims and appealsReview medical and service records and develop legal strategiesPrepare for and attend virtual or in-person BVA hearingsDraft briefs, Nexus letters, legal arguments, and DBQsLay out arguments for service connection, increased ratings, or effective date adjustmentsCommunicate regularly with clients and Case Managers regarding case updatesUse PageAI, VBMS, and Prevail to review and organize evidence efficientlyEnsure all deadlines, compliance requirements, and filings are metQualificationsJD from an accredited law schoolLicensed and in good standing with a state bar (Michigan preferred)Prior VA law experience or strong interest in disability advocacyExcellent legal writing, communication, and case management skillsComfort with digital tools and remote collaborationCommitment to timely, compassionate, and client-centered serviceExperienceMinimum of 10 years of experience advocating for veterans or handling VA claims.Extensive CAVC experienceExperience working within the Michigan veteran community is highly preferred.Working ConditionsFlexible remote OR hybrid work within Michigan depending on your location of residence.Occasional travel within the state to meet with clients or attend meetings.Ability to handle sensitive conversations with clients experiencing emotional or stressful situations.BenefitsCompetitive salary: Up to $180kHealth, dental, and vision insurance options (e.g., Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan)401(k) plan with employer match (up to 3.5%)Generous PTO policyProfessional development opportunities and tuition reimbursement
