Work Schedule: Full-Time, 4x10 Hour Shifts (Monday - Thursday)
Supervision: Moderate supervision with routine independence
Role Summary
The Utility Worker performs manual labor and operates a variety of hand and power tools to maintain, repair, and construct water utility infrastructure. This position requires operating heavy handheld equipment safely and working productively within a crew environment. The ideal candidate takes direction well, works independently under moderate supervision, and maintains professional, positive relationships with team members and the public.
Core Responsibilities
* Operate specialized power equipment including K-12 saw, concrete saws, jackhammers, and vibratory plate compactors.
* Utilize diverse hand and power tools to excavate, repair and replace buried Bangor Water District Assets.
* Set up and monitor portable pumps to control water flow and dewater work zones safely.
* Perform routine equipment maintenance by checking fluids, cleaning tools, and reporting mechanical issues.
* Establish safe work zones by placing traffic cones, signs, and safety barriers according to regulations.
* Collaborate closely with crew members to complete daily maintenance projects on time.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Experience: Proven experience operating construction hand tools, power tools, and small machinery.
* Physical Ability: Capability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and get along well with diverse team members.
* Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work a consistent four-day, ten-hour schedule (Monday through Thursday).
* Licensing: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required).
