Utility LocatorThe Utility Locator plays a crucial role in ensuring that underground utilities are accurately identified and marked prior to excavation activities. This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and requires attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety. The position requires a skilled technician to accurately pinpoint underground utilities in diverse terrain, weather conditions, and residential, commercial, and industrial areas, utilizing a range of techniques, including visual, electromagnetic, and GPR to accurately locate underground utilities.Responsibilities:Understand utility locating techniques, safety protocols, and how to operate equipmentDevelop an understanding of local utility infrastructure and regulations within the City of OceansidePartner with other experienced Locators to mark underground utility linesPerform field surveys to locate and mark underground utilities using specialized equipment (GPR)Document and report all findings and discrepancies accurately in a timely mannerIdentify and document the location and depth of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, cable, oil, and electric lines, using digital mapping tools including ArcGIS and Google MapsAssist in maintaining and calibrating utility locating equipmentProvide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns related to utility locationsRead and interpret utility maps and as-builts to inform locating effortsPrepare detailed field notes and document site conditions relevant to project requirementsCollaborate with construction team to deliver comprehensive field services, including utility investigation, locating, inspections, land survey activities, traffic control, and moreEnsure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies while on-siteQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training is a plus2 years of experience in underground utilities including telecom, electric, cable, gas, fiber optic, water, and sewer including GPR (Preferred)Strong understanding of utility marking standards and safety protocolsAbility to work in all weather conditions, and to lift up to 50 lbsValid driver's license and clean driving record, operate company vehicle in a safe mannerCommunicate effectively with contractors, clients, and team members regarding utility locations and any potential conflictsCapacity to work on multiple concurrent projects while maintaining excellent technical and communication skillsStrong leadership skills to mentor and influence internal teams, subcontractors, and vendorsAbility to organize and prioritize projectsStrong understanding of underground construction, boring, micro trenching, and fiber placementAbility to lift up to 75 poundsMust be able to walk extensively, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the dayCompensation $20-25/hr
