User Experience DesignerLocation: On-Site — 15 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201About the OpportunityA city-wide initiative to protect New Yorkers from the $6.5 billion lost annually to phone and online scams. This UX Designer will lead the end-to-end design of a product that directly serves vulnerable communities, including elderly residents and immigrant populations, by making scam prevention tools accessible, intuitive, and trustworthy.This is meaningful, mission-driven work at the intersection of civic technology, public safety, and digital equity.What You'll DoLead user research with vulnerable populations (elderly residents, immigrant communities) to surface real needs and inform design decisionsDevelop personas and end-to-end journey maps covering the full victim experience — from initial scam contact through 311 referral and digital resource navigationTranslate research into functional requirements for the app's call-filtering interface and web resource navigationProduce high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma for stakeholder reviews and developer handoffCraft plain-language, trauma-informed content in collaboration with the 311 teamRun iterative usability testing with diverse user groups to identify and eliminate frictionEnsure all deliverables align with NYC's brand identity and design system standardsRequired Qualifications14+ years of UX / Product Design experienceStrong command of user research methods — both qualitative (moderated interviews, usability testing) and quantitativeProficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite for high-fidelity design and prototypingExperience on cross-functional teams alongside engineers and product managersStrong written and verbal communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience designing for multilingual audiences (Spanish, Chinese, and/or Russian)Mobile app design experience (iOS/Android) and mobile-responsive web designAccessibility expertise for senior users — high-contrast design, legible typography, screen-reader optimizationFamiliarity with municipal or enterprise-level design systemsWhy This RoleThis is a rare opportunity to do UX work that has a direct, measurable impact on the safety and wellbeing of New York City residents.
