Staff Automation EngineerPosition Summary: As a Staff Automation Engineer on the Walmart Ambient Innovation & Automation team, you will provide mechanical design, fabrication, assembly, and Innovation Lab operational support services for the Advanced Engineering - Technical Engineering (T&E) team to ensure internal development objectives are delivered on-time and within budget.This position will be based in Bentonville, Arkansas (not open to remote-based candidates) and will report to the Senior Director, Advanced Engineering.What You'll Do:Develop, lead, and motivate to achieve departmental goals with a focus on optimization of internally developed solution workstreams.Work effectively and expeditiously alongside dynamically allocated internal and external stakeholders to accommodate individual objective needs.Efficiently manage multiple complex tasks.Gather and analyze quantifiable information to plan the most effective course of action.Develop goals and objectives that are measurable.Anticipate potential problems and develop contingency plans to avoid themRole Expectations:Continuous coordination with Technical Engineering to maximize development capability at the lowest possible costs (time and monetary)Fabrication and assembly of automated and ancillary system component designsAutomated system installation services and applicable sub-contractor management (if required)Quotation and procurement of externally fabricated system components and related servicesCollaborate with leadership to build strategy and scale for internal fabrication and assembly capabilitiesCo-management of low-level group resources (e.g. tools, consumable items, shop housekeeping)Essential Job Skills:Communication: Must be highly customer-oriented and able to clearly communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders for the benefit of satisfying project and broader organizational objectives.Management: Must understand, co-develop, and execute procedures for managing internal and external fabrication activities and workflows. These include, but are not limited to, basic design, material & consumable component procurement, fabrication, and inventory management across multiple engineering and trades disciplines.Technical Skills:Computer: Must have excellent office computer skills including e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets. MS Project (or similar) proficiency is a plus.Drawings: Must be able to read mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fabrication sketches, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.CAD/CAM: Must possess basic SolidWorks design capability with a high level of CAM software proficiency to translate CAD models into executable CNC programs.Machine Tool: Must effectively utilize both manual and CNC milling, turning, grinding and cutting machinery to deliver high-precision and accuracy (three-decimal place in. tolerance) machine components.
5-axis CNC milling and lathe experience is a plus.Hand Tools: Must be able to utilize basic mechanical and electrical hand tools to aid in the fabrication and assembly of machine components and assemblies.Metrology and Test Instrumentation: Must be able to utilize basic mechanical and electrical metrology and diagnostic equipment to aid in the fabrication and assembly of machine components and assemblies.Welding: Must be able to MIG weld ferrous machine components in both structural and aesthetically oriented applications. Ferrous and non-ferrous TIG experience preferred.Assembly: Must be able to assemble complex electro/mechanical machine components and assemblies of all types.Procurement: Must have working knowledge of estimation, standard procurement, and delivery processes within a broad range of applicable raw-material and turn-key solution suppliers. Local supplier base experience preferred.Educational Requirements:Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field and 5 years' experience in Engineering, Fabrication, and Machine Building.Option 2: Related vocational training certification AND/OR Applied Science Degree PLUS 5 years of experience in Fabrication and Machine Building.Benefits & Perks:Beyond competitive pay, you can receive incentive awards for your performance.
