Practice Info

  • Southwest Medical Associates (SMA), an Optum company, is Nevada's largest multi-specialty practice with over 350 physicians and advanced practice clinicians.
  • Facilities include 22 medical offices, 6 urgent care clinics, 7 Convenient Care Clinics, two lifestyle centers catering to seniors, and two outpatient surgery centers.
  • The practice is fully integrated and includes home health, complex disease management, pharmacy services, medical management, and palliative care.
  • SMA is actively engaged in population health management, with an emphasis on outcomes, and offers compassionate, innovative, and high-quality care.
  • The On-Demand Care Department is the largest and most comprehensive in Nevada for outpatient episodic care, with a quarter million visits annually.
  • The department includes six urgent cares and seven retail clinics, offering a full spectrum of services with on-site laboratory, radiology (including CT and ultrasound), observation unit, and infusion center.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight to the Anesthesia Pain Management Team.
  • Participate in the interview, selection, orientation, and development of clinical staff and providers.
  • Supervise and evaluate provider staff for compliance with all SMA/SHS policies and procedures, state and federal regulations, and standards of practice to ensure quality of care.
  • Provide direct patient care, including the development of patient diagnosis and treatment plans for patients referred into the Pain Management Department.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of patient-centered care plans.
  • Perform invasive pain management therapies as deemed appropriate.
  • Participate with RN Team Leaders to coordinate and communicate regarding patients across all venues of care.
  • Participate in Multi-disciplinary Pain Management Team meetings.

Compensation

  • Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $398,500-$667,500.
  • Total cash compensation includes base pay and bonus and is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience and may increase over time based on productivity and performance in the role.

Requirements

  • MD/DO with board certification (or Board eligibility with anticipated certification within the next 2 years) in anesthesiology and licensed to practice by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Prior practice in a multi-disciplinary pain management practice is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with a prepaid insurance plan is desirable.
  • Prior experience in managed care is desirable.
  • Expertise in the performance of a wide range of invasive pain management techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience in the diagnosis and medical treatment of a broad range of pain syndromes.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
