Job Summary
Urgent care Advanced Practitioners (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) provide a wide variety of clinical services including treatment of acute episodic conditions such as sore throats, colds, flu‑like symptoms, cuts, sprains and minor infections. They function in lieu of or alongside a physician and must have excellent assessment skills to recognize more serious conditions and direct patients to the emergency room when necessary. The position requires a commitment of 2 shifts per month and is offered on a per diem basis.
Job Requirements
Education
- Doctor of Physician Assistant (DPA) or equivalent for Physician Assistants.
- Master’s Degree for Nurse Practitioners.
Work Experience
- 2–5 years of post‑residency clinical experience.
- Minimum 18 months experience in an applicable practice setting.
- Adult and pediatric practice experience strongly preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- National Certification (e.g., NCA, AANP).
- Active state medical licensure.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Work experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting.
- Competence in office procedures such as suturing, splinting, and related interventions.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
- Strong listening, communication, and customer service skills.
Essential Functions
Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives.
- Examining and treating patients.
- Taking patients’ medical histories.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and X‑rays.
- Making diagnoses and prescribing medications.
- Treating minor injuries that may require sutures, splints, or casting.
- Recording progress notes for follow-up patients.
- Educating and counseling patients.
- Ordering and/or carrying out therapy with patients.
- Giving vaccinations, and referring patients to additional care.
- Each provider will work an anticipated four (4), eight (8) or twelve (12) hours per shift as assigned.
- All other duties as assigned.
