Ultrasound Tech

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist uses specialized ultrasound equipment to capture high‑quality diagnostic images on the areas of the anatomy requested by the physician. The Technologist follows departmental protocol for documentation, comparison, consent, and other patient‑care information needed for interpretation.

Job Responsibilities

• Set up and adjust ultrasound equipment for proper scans.
• Independently perform scans on patients according to established protocols, including shift coverage for evenings, nights, and weekends.
• Review and evaluate ultrasound films for technical quality.
• Perform quality assurance tests and studies related to ultrasound and contribute to CQI processes.
• Maintain ultrasound rooms in a clean, safe, well‑stocked condition.
• Accurately document per organizational information‑management procedures.
• Perform duties of a Radiologic Technologist as licensed, when required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

• Minimum: Graduate of an American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) accredited ultrasound program or a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) approved radiology school.
• Preferred: Multiple‑modality certification.

Experience Requirements

Minimum: Six months of ultrasound or radiology experience.

License/Certification Requirements

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association).
• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification in Abdomen or Obstetrics/Gynecology.

Additional Certifications

• Required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (R‑DMS).
• Preferred: Additional BLS certification.
