Title: UI/UX Designer
Duration: 3 Months
Location: New York, NY 10007 (Hybrid - 3 Days Onsite and 2 Days Remote/Week)
The UX/UI Designer will provide services across the full project lifecycle, including user research, interaction design, visual design, usability, and design system creation.
User Flows & Wireframing:
User Flows: Mapping the screens and decisions a user encounters from entry to exit.

  • Sitemaps: Structuring the hierarchy and navigation of the FOIL Portal website
  • Wireframing: Sketching rough, black-and-white layouts (low fidelity) to establish screen structure, content hierarchy, and core functionality.
  • Develop wireframes, user flows, and low-fidelity prototypes for all core FOIL Portal functions:
    • General FOIL Portal Interface - intuitive navigation, clear calls-to-action, and streamlined submission process for public users
    • Report Dashboard - visual representation of request status, analytics, and summary metrics for both public users and agency staff
    • Appeals Workflow - step-by-step process for submitting, tracking, and resolving FOIL appeals, ensuring clarity and minimal friction
Interaction Design
  • Interaction Design: Defining animations, transitions, and component states (e.g., hover, active and error states) to ensure intuitive communication.
User Interface (UI) & Visual Design
  • Visual Design Systems: Applying typography, colour palettes, and iconography to build a polished, brand-aligned interface.
  • Accessibility Compliance: Ensuring designs are WCAG compliant (proper colour contrast ratios, scalable text, screen reader-friendly labels).
  • UI Mockups: Crafting the final pixel-perfect visual representation of the FOIL Portal website.
Developer Handoff
  • Developer Handoff: Translating designs into actionable developer specifications using tools like Figma's Dev Mode, detailing spacing, padding, and asset exports.
Deliverables
User personas and journey maps
  • FOIL workflow maps and service blueprints
  • Wireframes, user flows, and low-fidelity prototypes for all core FOIL functions:
    • Redesign of existing FOIL portal interface
    • Report dashboard
    • Appeals workflow
  • Handoff-Ready Project File or Design Delivery Package with walkthrough notes
Mandatory Skills/Experience
Note: Candidates who do not have the mandatory skills will not be considered
  • Experience using tools like Adobe Illustrator, Zeplin, Figma or Sketch
  • Four years plus of UX/UI design experience
  • Accessibility design
