Job Title: UI/UX & Web Visual Designer
Project: UT San Antonio - Valdez Institute for Economic Development (VIED) Web Redesign & Migration
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced UI/UX & Web Visual Designer to lead the interface design and visual identity alignment for the consolidation and redesign of 10 university websites into a standardized WordPress platform. This role is responsible for creating intuitive user experiences, establishing responsive layouts, and ensuring all visual assets adhere strictly to institutional brand guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
• UI/UX & Interface Design: Design intuitive user flows, site architecture, and wireframes for desktop, tablet, and mobile interfaces to ensure seamless navigation across multi-site web assets.
• Visual Identity & Brand Adherence: Apply institutional brand guidelines-including typography, color palettes, visual iconography, and logo usage-across all digital page layouts.
• Responsive Web Design: Develop mobile-first, high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
• Visual Storytelling: Translate complex economic development programs and institutional data into engaging graphic layouts, visual hierarchies, and modern web graphics.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with WordPress developers to ensure design fidelity during theme development and front-end integration.
• Accessibility-Minded Design: Collaborate with accessibility specialists to ensure UI choices (color contrast, font sizes, interactive elements) comply with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Experience: 4+ years of professional UI/UX and web visual design experience, ideally within higher education, government, or enterprise-scale web transformations.
• Technical Proficiency: Mastery of standard design software (Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Sketch) and a clear understanding of front-end capabilities (HTML/CSS, WordPress block editors).
• Portfolio: Demonstrated track record of responsive web designs, clear visual storytelling, and adherence to complex enterprise brand systems.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication skills to present design concepts to project stakeholders and incorporate feedback effectively.
