Truck Driver
The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for Truck Driver. The purpose of this position is the safe and efficient operation of medium trucks to heavy equipment for transporting materials to and from work sites. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Essential tasks include driving trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, flatbed trucks, and dump trucks; operating chain saws; transporting construction and demolition materials such as stone, gravel, sand, and limbs to and from work sites; maintaining a log of work performed; performing pre-trip vehicle inspection as preventive maintenance; compiling equipment order to report malfunctions; assisting in loading materials; re-directing traffic as needed; reporting vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles; following safety standards developed by the County; and performing related work as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of specialized training in truck driving. One (1) year of experience in the operation of vehicles and equipment such as trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, flatbed trucks, and dump trucks or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is also required.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Successful applicants for employment must pass a drug and/or alcohol screening and pass background investigation.
