JOB SUMMARY
The Truck/Diesel Mechanic position performs a variety of skilled and technical maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of vehicles and light, medium, and heavy equipment. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
MECHANIC OPERATIONS : Performs routine maintenance on trucks, such as checking batteries and changing oil to ensure proper vehicle running. Inspects various parts of trucks, including brake systems, wheel bearings and steering mechanisms to ensure they are in the proper condition to operate effectively. Use different tools and equipment such as pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, screwdrivers, hoists and jacks, to repair trucks. Diagnose malfunctions in defective equipment by inspecting and testing using devises such as motor analyzers, handheld computers, and chassis charts to determine how to address problems. Test drive vehicles to ensure they are running properly and to find issues to determine the solution. Replace parts, valves, bearings, and gears as needed and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems. Measure vehicle emissions to ensure they are in the proper limits. Ensure parts conform to factory specifications by inspecting and verifying clearances and dimensions. Follows all county and industry standard safety procedures. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately to supervisor.
INTERDEPARTMENTAL COOPERATION : Responds to emergency calls as required. May be required to work during adverse weather conditions if warranted.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Employee must furnish own hand tools with sufficient tool inventory to complete daily tasks and work assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive types and heavy equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical certification or degree preferred but not required.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Other Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Working knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools used in equipment maintenance; skill in the use of tools, materials, welding and testing equipment; ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical defects and determine steps necessary to put equipment in proper operating condition; ability to ensure compliance with and follow standard safety practices and procedures common to equipment maintenance work; ability to keep accurate and complete records.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess valid driver's license, and ability to obtain a valid Wyoming Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A within six months of employment. Ability to be insured under the County's automobile insurance coverage. Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Conditions of Employment: This position is subject to satisfactory criminal background check, pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings, and maintain an acceptable driving record in order to be insurable under the County's liability insurance.

- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements - safety toe boots, safety eye glasses, gloves. After one (1) year of employment, employee is eligible for boot and prescription safety eye glasses allowance.

- While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. This position requires frequent work near moving mechanical parts.
