- Assist with traffic law enforcement, crash investigations, citizen assistance, executive or dignitary protection, safety awareness activities/promotion, and public speaking
- Ensure excellent communication skills with the public, peers, chain of command, and internal and external stakeholders in all situations

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
WHP APPLICANT TESTING:
- Each applicant, if approved, must attend WHP testing in person in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Failure to attend this testing process will remove the applicant from the hiring process. Failure at any point in the testing process will remove the applicant from further consideration. You will receive an email prior to testing if you are invited to in-person testing.
- The applicant is responsible for their travel, lodging, meals, and transportation during and for the testing process. The WHP will not pay for or reimburse you for the cost of attending testing.
- One week prior to WHP testing, each applicant must have successfully taken and passed the Public Safety Test (PST) (). To find locations to take the test: .
- This test will cost you $62. The WHP will not reimburse you for the cost of the test.
- Failure to take the test one week before WHP testing or failing the PST will preclude the applicant from further consideration in this testing process.
- Orientation with WHP Executive Staff
- Physical Fitness Assessment (WYRAP/Row Machine)
- If successful with WYRAP, participate in and pass an Oral Interview Board
- If successful with the Oral Interview Board, participate in and pass a deception test called EyeDetect
- If successful with EyeDetect, participate in and pass a psychological evaluation.
Background investigation phase:
- Once successful with the WHP Test processes, all successful applicants move into background investigations. The background investigation phase is lengthy and very in-depth. Failure to comply with a request from a background investigator, failure to complete the requirement paperwork, or discovery of a disqualifying factor will disqualify the applicant from continuing in the hiring process.
- If successful in the background investigation phase, each successful applicant will be submitted to the WHP Executive Staff for hiring decisions and duty station assignment
- Every applicant who is hired must successfully attend and pass the WHP State Trooper Academy.
- New hires who do not meet the P.O.S.T. standards for advanced peace officer certification must attend the entire minimum 20-week academy.
- New hires who qualify for advanced peace officer through P.O.S.T. must attend the 6-week Onboarding.
- Both groups start on the same date as part of the WHP Academy.
KNOWLEDGE:

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Troopers must be able to work shifts, holidays, and weekends.
