We are seeking an experienced commercial Electronic Security Systems Field Engineer to join our federal team. This remote/virtual role requires extensive travel—typically around 75% of the time—to support projects across the United States for Department of Defense and other federal agencies. Travel-related expenses are paid by the company.
Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) supports critical federal facilities and works to modernize U.S. military installations and other agency sites to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure.
Location: Remote/Virtual with ability to travel up to 75% of the time. Preferred locations: Huntsville, AL or Washington, D.C. Metro/DMV area.
Pay range: $85,000 - $105,000 base salary, negotiable based on experience.
Bonus: 10% eligible.
Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment. Paid vacation: 3 weeks, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, 10 standard holidays per year (total 6.5 weeks). Travel expenses paid.
Responsibilities
- Act as on-site project leader to plan, execute, and complete Electronic Security projects safely and cost‑effectively.
- Perform or delegate tasks to execute and fully complete assigned projects including system programming, integration, installation coordination, system and network commissioning, and project closeout.
- Develop project plans and coordinate required resources to ensure timely and cost-effective installation and completion.
- Provide work direction to subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administration as necessary.
- Complete typical installation of hardware design and software programming using established standards as required.
- Manage and complete loading, device verification, and commissioning of all system controllers; validate system functionality and resolve issues with subcontractors to ensure proper operation. Provide accurate project as‑built and commissioning documentation.
- Coaching, mentoring, and technical assistance to Security Technicians, Electrical Installers, System Designers, Subcontractors, and less experienced team members.
- Ensure work complies with state, local, and federal legal requirements and that all safety standards are adhered to.
- Assist with the selection, ordering, budgeting, and delivery schedule of materials to be procured for projects via web-based tool process.
- Effectively communicate project status to management and assist with monthly forecasts of revenue, costs, and gross margin.
- Perform site‑specific training for owner/operator on the total system in full or with assistance, ensuring proper documentation and manuals are provided.
- Adhere to safety standards, local and national security and fire codes, with a high degree of regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of field experience in the commercial or industrial Electronic Security industry.
- Technical, hands‑on experience with systems design, commissioning, and/or programming of Electronic Security Systems.
- Ability to communicate technical material to a non‑technical audience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general Windows environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical proficiency working with fiber and networks.
- Experience working with a wide variety of commercial Electronic Security Systems (e.g., Softwarehouse C‑cure 9000, Lenel, Genetech, Bosch BVMS). Lenel and Vindicator systems are preferred.
- Lenel programming experience.
- Experience managing or leading security related projects and associated teams.
Preferred Education
- Electronics certification from an accredited technical school.
- Lenel‑certified.
