Travel Surgical Tech/ORT - CVORT

American Traveler seeks a CVOR Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of cardiovascular experience for a hospital operating room position requiring on‑call availability.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of CV/CVOR scrubbing experience required
• 5,000 hours (approximately 2.5 years) of surgical setting experience, up to 6 months of which may be central processing experience
• Competent in basic surgical procedures plus 2 or more specialty areas (Ortho, Robotics, Neuro, CV, Trauma, Transplant, Reimplants) or facility case mix
• Endovascular and thoracic robot experience a plus
• NBSTSA or NCCT certification required (license required if applicable)
• BLS certification (AHA) required and must not expire before start date
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent military training (DD-214)
• Must be able to take assigned call
• Must be in good standing
• Manual dexterity for precise manipulation of complex instruments and equipment, including computer use for documentation
• Ability to see, read labels and sterile indicator tags, and identify equipment and supplies
• Ability to verbally communicate, hear, and quickly understand alarms and information, especially during emergencies

Responsibilities

• Hospital Operating Room setting
• First two weeks on a 7a-3p Monday-Friday schedule, followed by variable 8- or 12-hour shifts (7a-3p, 3p-11p, or 7a-7p)
• No graveyard shifts, but night call is required
• Variable weekend schedule with on-call requirements
• Uses Epic for charting
• Functions as a member of the surgical team under RN supervision, reporting to Surgical Services management
• Ensures the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria and maintains a sterile field and safe environment
• Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes
• Prepares the operating room and instruments for procedures and may assist with sterile processing
• Assists surgeons during procedures within scope of practice
• Identifies emergency situations and exercises judgment in responding appropriately
• Assists with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure after completion
• Participates in training and mentoring of staff, students, and orderlies, separate from a formal clinical coach role
• Provides or assists with at least one new educational offering per year and participates in a unit project annually
• May serve as a specialty lead, providing oversight, coordinating assignments, training, and validating staff competency
• Assists with orientation of new hires
• Physical demands include lifting and transferring patients, bending and carrying supplies/equipment of varying weights, and navigating crowded, busy rooms
• May be required to stand for extended periods while wearing personal protective equipment
• Requires DOB and last 4 digits of SSN for consideration
• Permanent staff must be separated from the facility for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
