American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring AK RN licensure and telemetry/stepdown experience.

Requirements

  • Active AK RN license required in hand for offer (pending license applications accepted, but must be finalized within 48 hours of signing)
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with 1:4 patient ratios
  • Skills required include respiratory care (BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care, oxygen administration), IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Experience in cardiac telemetry, MS/tele, neuro stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC, and renal/GU care preferred
  • Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required for consideration
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), a stepdown unit from ICU serving a wide variety of patient populations across multiple disciplines
  • Unit utilizes a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model with 1 bedside RN, 1 Virtual RN, and 1 CNA per patient
  • Bedside RN to patient ratio is 1:4; CNA ratio is 1:6
  • Patient population includes approximately 30% cardiac cases (CHF, MI, S/p TAVR, MVR, pacemaker, arrhythmia, ACS, Angiovac, drug load patients)
  • Also cares for respiratory patients (COVID, Flu, COPD, asthma exacerbations, trach patients >24h, chronic home ventilators) requiring high flow NC and BiPAP management
  • Serves as overflow for neuro and renal patients, as well as complex medical-surgical cases (ETOH withdrawal, GIB, etc)
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, 19:00-7:30
  • Weekend coverage required, potentially more frequent than every other weekend based on staffing needs
  • Floating required within scope to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and med-surg units
  • No on-call requirements
  • Epic EMR used for charting
  • Provide bedside nursing care in collaboration with a Virtual RN and CNA under the unit's Co-Care model
  • Work in a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma acute care hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
  • Facility has 407 total staffed beds
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility and parking is free
  • Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the state; refusal to float may result in termination of assignment and forfeiture of guaranteed hours
  • Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • All time off requests must be submitted upfront during the application process; post-offer requests may not be accommodated
  • Local candidates not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
