Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Telemetry position specializing in patients with mental illness, requiring Level 1 trauma experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Details

• Med/Surg- Telemetry unit (Visual Monitor Unit) within an acute care, Level 1 trauma hospital
• 14-bed unit focused on medical patients with secondary psychiatric diagnoses, including dementia and confusion
• Charge nurse carries a patient assignment
• Support staff includes behavioral health techs and video-monitoring security
• Telemetry monitoring used; no ventilator management on unit
• Psych MD on unit; SWAT/IV team, RT, and pharmacy available 24/7
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Floating may be required to ED psych holds or Med/Surg floors
• Unit‑specific orientation consists of 2 shifts

Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 18 months of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required (Level 2 trauma experience will be considered)
• Med/Surg-Telemetry experience required; psychiatric experience preferred
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed)
• Must pass a Sim Lab skills exam on day one of orientation covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Must maintain natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean‑shaven for respirator fit testing
• Copy of driver’s license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide medical/surgical nursing care with telemetry monitoring to patients with primary medical diagnoses and secondary psychiatric conditions
• Physical restraints are rarely used; chemical restraints may be used as needed, and all patients are video monitored by on‑unit security
• Average patient length of stay is 4 days
• Navy scrub color required; panic buttons provided for safety
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver’s license address
• First‑time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit‑affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible
• Failing the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exam twice results in ineligibility for CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento region facilities for 6 months
• Candidates with 7 or fewer requested PTO days may receive an auto‑offer; holiday PTO requires unit manager approval
• Travelers must have their own vehicle for transportation
