Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted if in-hand by Wednesday before start date)
- BSN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
- Must be comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED patient populations
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Prior travel experience required, though candidates with previous NICU/PICU float pool experience will be considered
- Required certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS
- Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (may submit with certification pending)
- Epic EMR experience required
- Peds PACU experience highly preferred
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Float Pool position covering various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, peds med-surg, peds PACU, peds ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby
- Night shift schedule with 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
- 36 or 48 hours per week
- 13-week contract length
- Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation required
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Uses Epic charting system
- Floating required within scope of practice per facility float policy
- Provide critical care nursing to pediatric patients across multiple specialty units including PICU, NICU, and pediatric ED
- Maximum 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with no RTO approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
- No additional RTO requests approved after offer acceptance
- First-time travelers will be considered if they have previous NICU/PICU float pool experience
- Previous UVA employees (permanent staff or internal/external travelers) must have 1-year separation and leadership approval to return
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching this limit
