American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Orthopedics RN for a night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma Center requiring 2+ years of RN experience and 1+ years in-specialty experience.
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of in-specialty (orthopedic) experience required
- BLS certification required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred
- Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Skills required: telemetry monitoring, IV starts, and management of cardiac/vasoactive drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Nitro, Argatroban, Amiodarone, and Dopamine (renal perfusion only)
- Experience with CPMs, Orthopat, Constavac, Hemovac, wound vacs, and traction required
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Conscious sedation experience preferred
- Minimum 2 Manager or Charge Nurse references from the past 2 years required
Responsibilities
- 6S Ortho/Med Surg overflow unit caring for patients following bone and joint reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma surgery, or sports injuries
- Patient population is 18 years and older
- Patient ratios typically 1:4, occasionally flexing to 1:5
- Unit operates under a team nursing model with remote telemetry monitoring staffed by an off-unit tech
- Night shift schedule, 7P-7A, 4x12 hours, weekdays with every other weekend required
- 36 or 48 hour contract options available
- Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
- Charting system is Cerner
- Provide direct patient care to orthopedic and med/surg overflow patients, including trauma and total joint replacement cases
- Located within a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital affiliated with the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
- Scrub color required is royal blue/white for RNs
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medically exempt; not required outside this window
- Covid vaccine not required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from their last permanent employment date before returning as a traveler
- Current employees of the associated health system (including CAMC Health Systems, Mon Health Systems, and affiliated hospitals) are not eligible for travel contracts within the system
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; those within 75-100 miles may be considered case-by-case at the same rate
- No local candidates accepted
