American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift acute care position requiring 2+ years of experience and a ND or compact RN license.
Requirements
- Active ND state or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years RN experience required
- Surgical, post-op, and early ambulation experience preferred
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
Responsibilities
- Acute care Med/Surg unit (3CC) within a Level 2 trauma medical center
- 30-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights
- Patient population includes total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urology, abdominal surgery, bariatrics, medical overflow, and colostomy patients
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, , with every other weekend requirement
- Holiday coverage as needed
- First to float among staff, floating to medical and telemetry units required
- Nursing aides/patient care techs on unit at 1:12 ratio
- Charge nurse present on both shifts and occasionally takes a low acuity assignment on nights
- RNs are not required to titrate drips or interpret telemetry strips
- Any color scrubs permitted
- Provide bedside care for post-surgical and medical overflow patients, including management of hemovacs, JP drains, and colostomies
- Occasional management of heparin drips, PCA pumps, and TPN
- Bedside shift report is expected
- Manager creates the schedule; block scheduling considered if unit needs are met; day/night rotation, if applicable, will not occur more than weekly
- Unit described as close-knit with a positive culture
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- RTO must be requested upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract); additional RTO will not be approved after submission
