American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical position requiring 2 years of experience, travel experience, and a heavy surgical patient presence.
Requirements
- Active LA state or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- One professional reference required
- Skills in GI care, bariatric surgery, bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and IV starts
- Respiratory care skills including chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care
- Medication administration experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
- Endocrine/metabolic skills including IV insulin protocols and thyroidectomy care
- Genitourinary/renal skills including renal failure management, plastics, and surgical drains
- Experience with cardiac monitoring and rapid response/code team activation
- Hernia surgery experience
Responsibilities
- Medical Surgical unit with a heavy surgical patient presence, though general Med Surg patients are also assigned
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Any charting system experience required
- Float within the hospital as needed
- Local candidates are not accepted; permanent residence must be greater than 50 miles from the facility
- Former employees must be separated from the facility for at least one year before returning as a traveler
- RTO requests must be submitted with the candidate profile and holiday RTO requests should be kept to a minimum
- Orientation spans three days, including virtual training on day one and on-site training with additional EMR education on days two and three
- Schedule is determined at the unit manager's discretion
