American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a night-shift OB unit requiring 2+ years experience and EFM certification.

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
  • Current certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring), and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience
  • Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

Responsibilities

  • Acute care setting in the OB unit of a hospital, providing labor and delivery, LDRP, and postpartum care
  • Unit includes 4 L&D beds, 1 LDRP bed, 1 OR suite, 1 PACU/recovery bed, and 6 postpartum beds, with approximately 647 births annually
  • Cares for low-risk OB patients and stable newborns >/= 36 weeks gestation, as well as high-risk OB patients followed by MFM, with Level 1 perinatal/nursery designation for the State of IL
  • Responsible for stabilization of the newborn and serving as circulator for C-sections
  • Titrates drips such as Pitocin and Magnesium
  • Utilizes EPIC EMR along with Philips fetal monitoring and OBIX for 24/7 central fetal monitoring surveillance
  • Charge Nurse and House Supervisor coverage provided each shift
  • Certified nurse aids serve as OB techs and surgical scrub techs for C-sections, with main OR staff as backup
  • Works 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7:30a
  • Weekend requirement of 3 weekends in a 6-week schedule
  • Floating required as an RN, helping hands, or 1:1 safety sitter for high-risk fall, safety, or newborn opioid withdrawal patients; no floating to inpatient Behavioral Health unit
  • Travelers may float 0-3 shifts per week between OB, ICU, Med/Surg, and ED units, including between SEMC Ottawa and Peru locations
  • Monitor fetal heart rate strips and communicate concerns to providers as needed
  • 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation provided, plus 12 hours of non-billable general orientation
  • Holiday rotation required based on unit staffing and census needs during the assignment
  • Standby or low-census on-call may apply depending on shift needs
  • Dress code allows personal choice of scrub color, but hospital-provided scrubs are required when caring for patients in the OR for C-sections
  • Local candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local pay rate
  • No radius requirement for eligibility to work this assignment
