American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years ICU experience, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.


Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • CCRN and basic critical care course preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Strong IV skills required
  • Comfortable managing ventilated patients and applying the ABCDE bundle
  • Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Experience with sepsis, DKA, COPD, GI bleeds, and post-surgical ICU recovery patients
  • Comfortable administering sedation medications such as Versed, Propofol, and norepinephrine

Responsibilities

  • 20-bed ICU in an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts on a 7a/7p schedule
  • 2 weekends required per 4-week period
  • Holiday coverage as needed per unit requirements
  • Floating required to Med-Surg Tele and Tele floors, with travelers floated first
  • May be deployed to the ED to care for boarded ICU patients or placed on standby with a 30-minute response time
  • Standby without being called in counts as a cancellation under the facility's policy
  • Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in ICU and 1 shift on an outside unit
  • No block scheduling or scheduling accommodations for outside commitments
  • Charge nurse on each shift serves as a resource for the entire hospital and does not carry a patient assignment
  • Respiratory therapy manages ventilators and is available 24/7, as is pharmacy
  • In-house internal medicine coverage is available 24/ 7, with pulmonology providing intensivist-level support outside of 24/7 hours
  • Facility is not currently a STEMI center and does not treat neuro cases
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Candidates should be comfortable floating to other units and taking a full patient load
  • Located near Yosemite National Park and several lakes, with San Francisco and Sacramento roughly 2 hours away
  • First-time travelers may be considered
