American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Dept position at a critical access rural hospital, requiring ND or compact RN licensure and at least 2 years of experience across ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed units.
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC, all active and current
- Must have understanding of dementia, stroke, and geriatric skin care
- Experience with titratable IV drips and blood product administration required
- Ability to interpret telemetry strips independently
Responsibilities
- Critical access rural hospital setting with 25 beds across combined ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed unit
- Patient population includes geriatric, dementia, stroke, and dependent older adults alongside rehab/restorative, post-surgical, diabetic, and trauma patients
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:8 utilizing a team nursing model
- Required to titrate drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Charge nurse present each shift and takes a team assignment rather than individual patients
- CNA/Nurse Aide support available on each shift
- Patient-managed CPAP only; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage other RT equipment
- 12-hour shifts, including and
- Team and block scheduling available, block scheduling must be requested
- Every other weekend and alternating/every other holiday requirement
- Floating required to ER and MedSurg support areas
- No call or standby requirement
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Provide direct patient care across ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed populations including initial trauma care, chronic illness management, and post-surgical rehab
- 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Scrubs required, no specific color designated
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and may not hold current full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health
- Candidates with prior direct employment (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with CommonSpirit-affiliated facilities within the past year are not eligible; PRN work through outside staffing firms is acceptable
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
