American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a high-volume Level 2 trauma center requiring 3-5 years of ED experience and a CA RN license.

- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
- 3-5 years of recent Emergency Department experience required
- BSN not required
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Responsibilities
- Level 2 trauma center ER with 26 beds/trauma bays plus a 5-bed fast track (2 exam, 3 bed)
- Serves 40-160 patients per day, approximately 55,000 visits per year
- STEMI and CVA receiving center treating adults and pediatric patients, with critical peds transferred to a nearby children's hospital
- Patient ratios of 3:1 and 4:1
- Charge nurse role carries no patient assignment
- No separate psych/seclusion rooms; sees 2-3 psych patients per day with security/patient sitter always present in the waiting area
- Uses Cerner (FirstNet) EMR
- RNs perform their own lab draws; no IV team
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips at a central monitor station; no dedicated monitor techs
- RT and pharmacy support available 24/7
- 2-3 ED physicians plus midlevel providers on staff
- Evening shift; 12-hour shifts with various start times between
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- No floating required
- Care for patients ranging from minor complaints to major trauma in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Patient population includes a significant homeless and low socioeconomic demographic with high incidence of substance abuse
- Unit-specific orientation includes a Trauma Across the Lifespan education module, one day with a supervisor and two days with a preceptor
- RN scrub color is navy blue
- Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays and rotate holiday coverage with core staff
- First-time travelers may be considered
