American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a busy 13-week night shift assignment requiring a NE or compact RN license and multiple emergency certifications.
Requirements
- Active RN license (NE state or Compact/NLC)
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, ENPC, NIHSS, NRP, PALS, TNCC
- De-escalation training/certification preferred
- Must be competent with pediatric patients and pediatric readiness certified
- EPIC EMR experience
- Driver's license required at time of consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
Responsibilities
- Emergency Department with 21 private rooms, 2 trauma bays, 1 resuscitation room, 1 forensic nurse exam room, and 2 triage rooms
- Handles approximately 50 patients per day with a 4:1 patient-to-nurse ratio
- Patients are roomed within 7 minutes of arrival; primary RN typically triages from the waiting room
- ED nurses manage their own ER holds, which are intermixed within the unit
- 2 dedicated psych/seclusion rooms with in-house security available
- Common diagnoses include cardiac, respiratory, oncologic, neurosurgical, stroke, and trauma cases
- Works with vents, CPAP, BiPap, and high flow oxygen equipment; RT performs ABGs and breathing treatments while ED staff manage EKGs
- Patients are monitored on telemetry by ED RNs, with one strip printed per chart per standard of care
- Portable X-ray available in the ED with CT located nearby; transport managed by radiology
- Primary nurse performs approximately 90% of lab draws
- Support staff includes 1-2 CNA techs per day, a 24/7 charge nurse (who also carries a patient load), and a 24/7 house supervisor
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts required
- Every other weekend requirement
- Holiday coverage required
- No call or standby requirement
- No floating required
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care across a wide range of acute and trauma cases
- Complete a pass/fail open-book exam on skills learned during orientation, requiring a 90% score to pass
- Navy scrub color required per dress code
- Unit-specific orientation provided
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
