Requirements

• Active RN license
• Degree from an accredited nursing program
• BLS & ACLS certifications
• At least 18 months recent experience in an acute care PCU/step‑down setting
• Additional client‑facility requirements

Responsibilities

Progressive Care Nurses monitor patients who require close monitoring but are not unstable enough for ICU care. They monitor cardiac and vital signs, administer complex medications, and intervene for life‑threatening or emergency situations. PCU nurses may work in cardiac, medical, neuro, surgical step‑down, or ER holding environments.

• Monitor and assess patients not unstable enough for ICU care.
• Use computer systems to monitor cardiac and vital information and detect changes, enabling life‑threatening or emergency interventions.

Additional Information
