Requirements

• Active RN License
• Degree from accredited nursing program
• BLS Certifications
• At least eighteen months of recent experience in an Acute Care Psychiatric setting
• Other requirements to be determined by client facility

Responsibilities

Psychiatric Nurses (RN) provide care for patients with mental health issues, assessing, diagnosing, and treating them. They work as part of a team to provide total medical care for the patient.

• Assess the mental health status of patients with behavioral challenges.
• Collaborate with medical providers and mental health staff in design and delivery of patient care.
• Administer and monitor effectiveness and side-effects of psychotropic medications.
• Assist patients and families as appropriate to interpret and manage maladaptive behaviors and to plan healthy lifestyle changes.
• Exercise balanced judgement in evaluation situations and make decisions to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a professional manner.
