Job Responsibilities

  • Licensed RN able to practice in the State of Mississippi
  • The RN performs under the direct supervision of the Director and is delegated an assignment by the charge nurse to achieve quality patient care.
  • The Clinical Nurse implements the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the unit charge nurse.
  • Responsible to the unit Director for patient care and accountable to the Director of Nursing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
  • Demonstrates ability to assess patient status and provide care as per department policies and procedures.
  • Documents all care and pertinent information in the Medical Record to ensure continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude for labor & delivery equipment including fetal monitors, telemetry fetal monitoring, fetal scalp electrodes, intrauterine pressure catheter, epidural pumps, radiant warmers, delivery lights, and patient IV infusion pumps.
  • Applies critical thinking skills in emergent situations recognizing maternal and fetal complications during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
  • Anticipates needs of physicians and anesthesia to expedite emergencies and intervenes in delivery complications such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis.
  • Positions laboring patients safely to enhance uteroplacental blood flow and assists with vacuum extractor or forceps.
  • Performs safe practices related to care of mother/infant couplet and recognizes compromised newborns to perform emergency interventions.
  • Educates on the ten steps to successful breastfeeding.
  • Communicates and interacts appropriately with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups with cultural and religious sensitivity.
  • Builds respectful relationships with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals and agencies.

Job Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized and accredited Registered Nurse program.
  • Licensed RN able to practice in the State of Mississippi.
  • Two years of nursing experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation certification required.
  • S.T.A.B.L.E certification required.
  • Fetal Heart Monitor Course required.

Schedule Information

  • Night shift.
  • 12-hour shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.
  • 42 hours per week.
  • 36 hours/48 hours rotation or straight 48 hours per week.
  • Every other weekend required.

Unit Specific Information

  • Labor and Delivery unit.
  • Involves troubleshooting labor and delivery equipment including fetal monitors and telemetry fetal monitoring.
  • Care for mother/infant couplet.
  • Involves assisting with vacuum extractor or forceps during delivery.
  • Requires recognition and intervention in delivery complications such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis.
  • Involves positioning laboring patients to enhance uteroplacental blood flow.
  • Requires ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks including repositioning patients under epidural anesthesia.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Uses Epic EMR system.
  • Scrubs color: Galaxy Blue.
  • Professional appearance required including natural or neutral hair colors.
  • Level 1 unit with 10-17 deliveries per month.
  • Positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve department goals.
  • Adheres to organizational values including safety and compliance standards.
  • Participates in all competencies planned for the job role before deadlines.
  • Complies with departmental and facility policies.
  • Prohibits spreading rumors and gossip to maintain a positive work environment.
