Required Qualifications

  • One year’s experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technician
  • Current Nuclear Medicine Technologist/Radiography license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • ARRT or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) certification
  • Additional certifications and licenses as required

Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is a highly specialized health care professional responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to diagnose and treat various medical conditions. They operate advanced imaging equipment, monitor patient safety, and ensure compliance with radiation safety standards while collaborating with healthcare teams to deliver accurate and effective diagnostic results.

Essential Work Functions

  • Educate patients about nuclear medicine procedures and answer their questions.
  • Maintain and inspect nuclear medicine equipment for proper functioning, report malfunctions, and ensure compliance with radiation safety standards.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and other medications to patients according to established protocols and safety standards.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to radioactive drugs or other administered medications, intervening as necessary.
  • Operate medical imaging equipment to create images of organs or areas of the body per physician orders.
  • Document procedure details in patient records to ensure continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow hospital safety rules, policies, and radiation safety procedures to minimize exposure to radioactive materials.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of Nuclear Medicine Technologist practice as assigned.

  • Technical/motor skills: grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about with equipment.
