Requirements

  • One year of recent experience as an RN in a long‑term care setting
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ARC) or CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on facility requirements

Summary

A Registered Nurse in a long‑term care facility provides skilled nursing care to residents, ensuring their health, comfort, and well‑being. RNs oversee care plans, administer treatments, monitor status changes, collaborate with healthcare teams, supervise nursing staff, educate residents and families, and ensure compliance with regulations and facility policies.

Essential Work Functions

  • Assess patient or resident health, monitor for changes, and take appropriate action to ensure well‑being
  • Develop, update, and implement personalized care plans in collaboration with residents, families, and the care team
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
  • Observe residents for medication reactions or changes and report concerns to the healthcare provider
  • Provide skilled procedures such as wound care, IV therapy, catheter management, and other scope‑of‑practice treatments
  • Supervise and support LPNs and CNAs, delegating appropriately and ensuring quality care
  • Educate residents and families on medications, treatments, and chronic condition management
  • Document care, progress, and health changes in a timely manner
  • Respond quickly to emergencies, delivering critical care and coordinating with medical teams
  • Work closely with physicians, therapists, and other professionals to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adhere to facility safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards

Required Essential Skills

  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
  • English language proficiency for reading, writing, and communication
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions and follow verbal instructions
    PC skills proficiency
  • Physical abilities: Remain stationary, move about, lift and move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
  • Interpersonal skills: Work effectively with diverse personnel, maintain a positive attitude and professionalism
  • Technical/motor skills: Fine manipulation, push/pull, and move while assisting with procedures or using equipment
  • Mental requirements: Handle frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, work with or without close supervision, manage irregular schedules, sustain concentration on detail
  • Sensory: Visual acuity and effective communication
