Travel Crane Operator
Responsible for controlling cranes or draglines to lift, move, position or place machinery, equipment, product and other large objects.
Crane maintenance
Demonstrate understanding of crane capacity and safe lifting practices
Demonstrate understanding of product dunnage and stacking practices
Knowledge and maintenance of yard location system
May include general supervision of material handlers
Conduct a pre-operational check on travel crane and perform cleaning/sanitization of cab daily
Communicate with group leader and maintenance any concerns that may arise from inspection of Mi-Jack
Operate travel crane in a safe manner following all safety guidelines and rules
Work in conjunction with crew leader and ground men in safely setting product on trailer or in stacks on the yard.
Assist with setting timbers on trailers or in stacks on the yard and rigging when needed
Maintain travel crane in good clean condition and in operational mode and reporting maintenance needs when necessary
Perform preventive maintenance of the crane
Work as part of a team assisting others as needed
Adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations
Housekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly manner
This job has no supervisory duties
Works on a team
Has limited supervision, must work independently
Knowledge of crane guide hand signals
Knowledge of mark-up load steps
Able to read load-pick list
Understanding of rigging
Basic reading, writing, and math skills
Able to work on a team
Understanding of crane charts and safe lifting radius
Able to operate tablet to identify items to be loaded or offloaded
Able to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes
Values and demonstrates safe working behaviors
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Monday-Friday
Schedule varies with workload and location
Unscheduled overtime may be needed depending on production needs
Outdoor, not sheltered
Not climate controlled and may be exposed to changing weather and temperature
Safety glasses - Hearing protection
Hard hat - Steel-toed shoes
High-visibility vest - Gloves (various types)
This position requires standing for long periods of time, lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and bending, repetitive motion with medium force, and an ability to frequently climb up to 15 feet above ground using stairs.
