Cardiac Cath Lab RN Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in Illinois or confirmation that the Illinois RN license application process has been initiatedn
• At least 1 year of recent Cardiac Cath Lab, interventional, or related procedural nursing experiencen
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Associationn
• Experience admitting, preparing, monitoring, and recovering patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, Interventional Radiology, and Electrophysiology proceduresn
• Ability to interpret telemetry strips and safely titrate medications and intravenous dripsn
• Knowledge of commonly used intravenous medications in procedural and recovery settingsn
• Strong patient assessment, communication, organization, critical-thinking, and emergency-response skillsn

Cardiac Cath Lab RN Responsibilities

• Admit, assess, prepare, monitor, and recover patients before and after invasive cardiac and vascular proceduresn
• Care for patients undergoing heart catheterizations, peripheral angiograms, STEMI interventions, stroke and neurointerventional procedures, drain and line placements, IVC placement, temporary pacemaker insertion, TEE, cardioversion, and EP studiesn
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, recognize changes in patient condition, and initiate appropriate nursing interventionsn
• Administer and titrate intravenous medications and drips according to provider orders and clinical protocolsn
• Collaborate with providers, Cath Lab technologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary procedural teamsn
• Provide safe, thorough patient handoffs and complete accurate nursing documentation in Epicn
• Respond effectively to urgent and emergent patient needs in a fast-paced procedural environmentn
