A Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, Texas, is seeking a Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician for ongoing coverage within a high-volume, well-supported surgical program. This opportunity offers a collaborative environment and a diverse caseload of trauma and acute care surgery patients. The role involves shift-based coverage in a multidisciplinary practice.

Practice Info

  • Facility is a 495-bed acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center
  • The program provides comprehensive trauma and acute care surgery services
  • Annual volumes include approximately 1,618 trauma activations, over 1,000 trauma admissions, and nearly 500 acute care surgery operative cases annually
  • Coverage includes in-house trauma coverage, Acute Care Surgery (ACS) coverage, and backup call coverage as scheduled
  • Collaborate with emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospitalists, and surgical staff

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients
  • Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries
  • Provide acute care surgery consultations and procedures
  • Participate in trauma activations and multidisciplinary patient care
  • Document patient encounters accurately using the facility's electronic medical record

Compensation

  • Competitive per 24/hour shift rate
  • All travel arrangements provided and booked by the group, on top of the per shift rate

Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred
  • Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
  • Current ATLS certification
  • Demonstrated trauma and acute care surgery experience
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
