Transplant Psychiatrist

Northwell Health is seeking a Transplant Psychiatrist to join its growing Transplant Psychiatry team within the Northwell Transplant Institute, articulating with the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry program at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH). This role involves providing comprehensive behavioral health services for transplant patients, including inpatient and outpatient care, donor evaluations, and multidisciplinary collaboration. • The Transplant Institute combines all solid organ transplant programs (heart, lung, liver, and kidney) under one umbrella.
• Strong partnership with the Departments of Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Psychiatry, and Northwell's Lung Institute.
• Transplant procedures are performed at North Shore University Hospital and Cohen Children's Medical Center.
• Patients may be seen at one of the team's 40+ office locations before and after transplant procedures.
• North Shore University Hospital is a 766-bed teaching hospital, a major university teaching hospital for the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
• The Department of Psychiatry operates a highly regarded Consultation Liaison (CL) Psychiatry service.

Responsibilities

• Implement the vision of comprehensive and multidisciplinary behavioral health services for transplant patients at NSUH.
• Provide inpatient psychiatric consultations and follow-up visits to medical/surgical inpatient transplant candidates and donors.
• Address the psychiatric, psychological, and social challenges associated with organ transplantation.
• Perform donor evaluations for suitability of living organ donors.
• Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration with medicine specialists, surgeons, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Evaluate and treat patients pre- and post-transplant (inpatient and outpatient) with behavioral complications from medical illness, medications, and/or psychiatric disorders.
• Attend Psychiatry Grand Rounds, faculty meetings, and faculty development seminars.
• Train and supervise psychiatry residents, psychosomatic medicine fellows, and rotating medical students.

Requirements

• Board certified in Psychiatry with advanced training in transplant psychiatry preferred.
• Fellowship trained in either Psychosomatic Medicine (Consultation Liaison Psychiatry) or Addiction Psychiatry are preferred.
• Must have or be eligible for New York State medical licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years of attending-level experience in either C-L Psychiatry or Addiction Psychiatry, preferably with transplant psychiatry focus.
• Clinical experience preferably within a large health system or academic medical center.
• Strong knowledge of Transplant Psychiatry evidence-based practices and quality improvement methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to function in a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
