Transitional Year Program Director for Baptist Health-UAMS GME


The Baptist Health/UAMS Medical Education Program is seeking a Transitional Year Program Director.


The Transitional Year Program Director provides leadership, administration, and educational oversight for the ACGME-accredited Transitional Year Residency Program.


The Program Director is responsible for the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the residency program; compliance with ACGME Institutional, Common, and Transitional Year Program Requirements; resident recruitment and development; faculty engagement; and achievement of program aims and outcomes. The Program Director fosters a supportive learning environment that prepares residents for advanced specialty training and promotes excellence in patient care, professionalism, well-being, and scholarly activity.


This position serves within the Baptist Health-UAMS Medical Education Program, a partnership between Baptist Health- the largest private health care system in Arkansas and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), the state's only academic health sciences university. This collaboration combines the academic excellence and research resources of UAMS with Baptist Health's community-based care model to train compassionate, skilled family physicians who are prepared to meet the evolving health needs of Arkansas and beyond.


Qualifications – Minimum Qualifications



  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.

  • Board certification by an ABMS or AOA-approved specialty board in a discipline relevant to the educational program.

  • Eligibility for and ability to maintain an unrestricted Arkansas medical license.

  • Minimum of three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience in graduate medical education.

  • Demonstrated commitment to resident education, mentorship, and academic leadership.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior experience as a Residency Program Director, Associate Program Director, or Core Faculty member.

  • Experience with ACGME accreditation processes, site visits, self-studies, and ADS reporting.

  • Experience in curriculum design, resident assessment, faculty development, and quality improvement.

  • Demonstrated success fostering inclusive learning environments and resident well-being initiatives.


Protected Time and Support



  • The position includes protected administrative time and institutional support commensurate with ACGME requirements and program needs.


Additional Information: Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the Transitional Year Residency Program.

  • Maintain substantial involvement in resident education and program administration.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ACGME accreditation requirements, policies, and reporting obligations.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum, required rotations, electives, didactics, quality improvement, patient safety, and professional development activities.

  • Lead resident recruitment, selection, onboarding, mentoring, and career advising activities.

  • Oversee competency-based assessments, Milestones reporting, semiannual resident review, promotion, remediation, and graduation decisions.

  • Chair or oversee the Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee.

  • Conduct Annual Program Evaluation and implement continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  • Monitor resident well-being, professionalism, supervision, patient safety, and duty hour compliance.

  • Recruit, support, and develop faculty participating in the residency program.

  • Collaborate with institutional leadership, the DIO, GMEC, participating sites, and specialty departments.

  • Maintain accurate program records, Accreditation Data System updates, and preparation for accreditation reviews and site visits.
