Transition/Curriculum Consultant

Reports to: Director of Special Education/Special Education Supervisor

Location: Clare-Gladwin Area School (serving Clare & Gladwin County school districts)

Work Schedule: Five (5) days per week as per the local school districts' schedule and calendar

Salary Range: According to the Terms of the Master Agreement with AFT

Starting Date: School Year (August 2026)

Job Summary: The Transition and Curriculum Consultant position is a dual role. The Transition Consultant portion of the role is responsible for advising teachers and counselors on supporting students and families through planning daily living, employment and education/training, as well as agency collaboration across ages 14-26. The Curriculum Consultant portion would be responsible for researching, recommending, assisting with implementation, and coaching of curriculum targeting both resource room and self-contained programming across all ages.

Primary Functions:

  • Provide transition planning support by collaborating with students, families, teachers, and counselors to prepare students for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living.
  • Lead curriculum development and implementation by researching, recommending, and supporting evidence-based instructional programs for resource room and self-contained classrooms.
  • Coach and support educators through professional development, instructional coaching, and implementation support to ensure effective teaching practices and curriculum fidelity.
  • Coordinate community partnerships and transition services by serving as a liaison between schools, families, employers, community agencies, and post-secondary providers.
  • Ensure compliance with special education transition requirements by providing training, maintaining required documentation, completing Indicator B-13 reporting, and supporting IEP transition planning.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education or a field of study related to special education is required.
  • Three (3) years of satisfactory teaching experience in special education is required.
  • Previous experience in transition planning and curriculum implementation in local or Intermediate School District (ISD) level programming with a background in the following is preferred. Experience with individuals with developmental, emotional, physical and cognitive impairments.
  • Working knowledge of transition assessment.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary of community and district relationships.
  • Knowledge and awareness of best practices in curriculum implementation and development.
  • Meets requirements as stated in Michigan Administration Rules for Special Education as defined in R , R , and R .
  • Valid Teaching Certificate or related service provider field with Special Education endorsement.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License.
