Job Title: Training CoordinatorReports to: Power and Recovery ManagerThe Position:A Training Coordinator in a Pulp mill is responsible for overseeing the training and development programs for employees to ensure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to perform their jobs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.About Port Townsend Paper Company (PTPC)The Port Townsend Paper mill has been in continuous operation for more than 90 years. We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers to produce Kraft pulp, containerboard, medium, and market pulp, and have built strong customer relationships through long-term partnerships.At PTPC, we prioritize a healthy and safe work environment by managing risk and embedding safety into all processes and procedures. We strive to preserve the environment, support our community, and maintain a workplace where many employees have built long, fulfilling careers, with numerous staff reaching 20, 25, 30, and even 35 years of service.Job Responsibilities:Training Program and Development & Implementation:Design, develop, and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.Ensure training program align with safety standards, quality assurance, environmental guidelines, and mill operational proceduresUpdate and maintain training materials to reflect changes in mill processes or regulatory requirements.Onboarding & Orientation:Facilitate the departmental onboarding process for new hires, ensuring they receive proper safety, operational and procedural training.Conduct orientation sessions for new employees, familiarizing them with mill operations, policies and safety protocols.Performance Assessment & Evaluation:Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, tests or performance reviewsIdentifying skill gaps and work with department heads to develop corrective training solutionsMaintain accurate records of training activities, certifications, and compliance with internal and external standards.Collaboration:Work closely with department managers and supervisors to identify training needs and prioritiesCollaborate with Safety Department to develop and administer safety training sessions to ensure all employees are compliant with OSHA regulations and company safety policiesPartner with Human Resources to manage employee development, career progression programs and performance reviewsScheduling:Work closely with department supervisors and the Power and Recovery to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained for safe and reliable mill operationsCommunicate employee schedules, schedule changes, approve leave, and coverage requirements to employees and department leadershipMonitor staffing levels and identify scheduling conflicts or coverage gaps that may affect department operationsCoordinate training assignments and required training around employee schedules, vacation, leave, shift assignments, and operational needsMaintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling employee scheduling, leave, and attendance informationIdentify opportunities to improve scheduling practices, staffing coverage, and the coordination of the training and employee leave within the Power and Recovery departmentEquipment Training:Ensure employees are trained in the safe operation and maintenance of pulp mill, and power and recovery machinery, from wood into the mill to pulp production (including steam generation and wastewater/utilities)Documentation & Reporting:Maintain comprehensive records of all training activities, attendance, and certification statusPrepare reports for management on training completion rates, compliance issues, and employee development progress and address specific technical training needs based on operational changes or new equipment installationQualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, or related field preferred: or equivalent work experience in manufacturing or industrial settingExperience: Minimum 3 years of experience in training coordination. preferably manufacturing, industrial, or paper mill environmentSkills: Strong understanding of safety regulations and complianceexcellent communication and interpersonal skillsability to design and deliver effective training programsstrong organizational and time management skillsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite or other training softwareSafety-related certifications (e.g., OSHA, First Aid/CPR) preferredWorking Conditions:The position may require working in various environments within the paper mill, including potentially loud or hazardous areas. Personal protection equipment (PPE) must be worn as requiredThe role may involve shift work depending on the mills operation schedule.Employment Terms:Full-time, salary exempt positionSalary range: $87,500-$122,500 (grade 4)3 weeks paid vacation9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar yearRetirement plan, medical, dental and vision coverageEmployee Assistance coverage with full services, including dietary and nutritional services, retirement planning, and support servicesIn compliance with the Immunization and Naturalization Act, proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hirePrior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be concluded.
