n**_JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, responsible for the orderly flow of passenger and vehicle traffic control inside and outside the terminal, ground transportation, and parking lot areas to assist the traveling public, airport authority, and tenants. Individuals must be able to work evenings, nights, or days.
nJOB RESPONSIBILITIES
nEssential Job Responsibilities:
nEnforces traffic related rules and regulations. Maintains traffic flow at curbside and parking lots as necessary.
nMonitors curbside, parking, and ground transportation areas for compliance with SMAA vehicle for hire operating procedures.
nPerforms vehicle inspections as may be required.
nEnsures the proper compliance of drivers of vehicles violating rules and regulations.
nSafely directs pedestrian and passenger foot traffic in and around the terminal building including the security checkpoint queuing area, tenant ticket counters or at other locations as may be required.
nObserves traffic flow to determine most effective procedures and makes recommendations for improved services.
nProvides information and assistance to tenants and the general public.
nAssists in crosswalk areas as required.
nAdministers first aid and CPR in accordance with prescribed practices approved by the American Red Cross.
nAlerts police to suspicious persons and crimes in progress.
nOther Job Responsibilities:
nMay provide traffic control assistance to Law Enforcement Officers and/or communication assistance in emergencies and non-routine situations.
nProvides testimony in a court of law when necessary.
nAssists in the general maintenance (non-repair) and cleaning of Department Equipment.
nMay assist with Lost & Found items.
nPerforms other related work as required.
nMATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED
nRadios, Training Materials, Communications Equipment, Office Equipment, Golf Carts, Vehicles, Emergency Medical Equipment.
nQUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
nWhere "preferred" is indicated, the qualification is not essential.
nEducation and Experience:
nHigh School Diploma or GED.
nTwo years' experience in traffic enforcement or customer service, preferred.
nLaw enforcement education or employment, preferred.
nMilitary service, preferred.
nLicenses and Certifications:
nValid State of Florida Driver's License or must obtain within (30) days of assuming the position and good driving record.
nAmerican Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification or must obtain within one year of assuming the position.
nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
nKnowledge of traffic control practices and procedures, preferred.
nKnowledge of airport security practices and procedures, preferred
nAbility to enforce established traffic rules and regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality.
nAbility to react quickly, appropriately, and calmly in emergency and non-routine situations.
nAbility to remain courteous and in control while serving and protecting the public.
nAbility to apply department policies and procedures to a variety of circumstances, problems, and conditions.
nAbility to communicate clearly and effectively, both oral and written.
nAbility to understand and follow oral instructions.
nAbility to accurately prepare a variety of reports and logs.
nAbility to develop and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, fellow employees, tenants, and the general public.
nAbility to use reference materials.
nWork Environment:
nIndividuals work on a varied schedule.
nIndividuals must be able to work evenings, nights, or days.
nIndividuals must be willing to fill in occasionally on short notice.
nThis is a hands-on position.
nMust be willing to work in an outdoor environment and in inclement weather.
nPhysical Requirements:
nA Traffic Control Specialist can be required to deal with adversarial situations which may require several intervention approaches when dealing with traffic and crowd-related situations.
nThe individual must be sufficiently fit to safely perform in a variety of situations.
nMental Requirements:
nA Traffic Control Specialist must be capable of reacting quickly, appropriately, and calmly in non-routine and emergency situations; must be able to work independently with minimal direct supervision; and must remain courteous and under control while serving and protecting the public.
nEnvironmental Requirements:
nThe Traffic Control Specialist principally works out of doors in the day, evening, and night in all types of weather conditions. The Traffic Control Specialist may be exposed to hazardous environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, extreme heat and vehicle exhaust and noise.
