Job Description Summary

Performs moderately complex repair or construction of universityfacilities or property which require specialized training in askilled trade (mason/tilesetting). Performs skilled masonry dutiesin the construction, alteration, repair, installation andmaintenance of masonry structures. Position's primary purpose is toensure that masonry structures, restrooms/shower areas, and patiosare in safe, clean and good condition and that repairs arecompleted promptly and properly. Hours for this position are Mondaythrough Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Job Description

Essential Duties:

  • Reviews job orders and blueprints or drawings; inspects siteand consults with client; determines best method to completeproject
  • Estimates amount of materials and equipment needed to completeproject; arranges for materials to be at job site
  • Performs complex repair or installation on Universityfacilities and property using expertise acquired throughspecialized training in the masonry trade
  • Assists outside contractors as needed; assists crafts-personsfrom other trades as needed
  • Maintains and cleans tools and equipment; maintains work areain a clean and orderly manner
  • Performs trade tasks, including constructing forms, tile,concrete, brick/block, and other building rough carpentry work, andresponds to emergency situations as assigned
  • May prepare some paperwork; may maintain files

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires nine months training beyond high school in a skilledtrade (masonry) and two years of experience in the that trade, oran equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years documented experience in masonry work orjourneyman status in the trade.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of a particularskilled trade
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and/or mechanicaldiagrams

Working Conditions:

Frequent standing and walking with some climbing and lifting ofmaterials weighing 50 to 75 pounds. Frequent operation ofequpiment. Somewhat unpleasant working conditions. Some exposure toseveral unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable.Some element of personal risk and exposure to accidents.
