Tort Defense Attorney

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a skilled Tort Defense Attorney in Irvine, California, to join their litigation team. The attorney will defend clients in complex civil matters, including personal injury, mass tort, and tort claims, managing case strategy from intake through trial.

Duties

• Manage a caseload of tort and civil defense matters, including personal injury and mass tort claims.
• Conduct factual and legal investigations, draft pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
• Develop and implement case strategy, including liability and damages analysis.
• Represent clients at depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.
• Coordinate with insurance carriers, expert witnesses, and outside vendors.
• Handle motion practice, legal research, and drafting of briefs.
• Maintain clear communication with clients and team members.
• Ensure compliance with court rules and supervise paralegals and junior attorneys.
• Participate in business development and continuing legal education.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar admission.
• 3+ years of civil litigation experience with exposure to tort defense.
• Experience in all phases of litigation, including discovery and trial advocacy.
• Strong knowledge of tort law and negligence principles.
• Proven ability to manage heavy caseloads and prioritize deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
• Experience working with insurance carriers.
• Ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
• Comfortable supervising support staff and mentoring junior attorneys.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active bar admission in the hiring jurisdiction.
