Tooling EngineerHot JobXeridiem - Tucson - Tucson, AZ 85714OverviewPosition Type Full TimeDescriptionJOB PURPOSE:Responsible for the design, development, procurement, and support of silicone processing equipment and tooling (including molding, extrusion, and related technologies). This role plans, designs, and coordinates the manufacture of tools and equipment that meet product and process specifications. Works closely with mechanical, product, and process engineering teams to transition equipment from concept through validation to a qualified production process.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Coordinate with cross-functional team members as needed during tooling and equipment qualification, sampling and final part approvalTroubleshoot issues with production tooling and equipment, coordinate and execute repair activity as needed during development and modification phasesSupport production through ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement of toolingPerform minor tooling repairs utilizing onsite machine shop capabilitiesProvide manufacturing process development support for new and existing toolingIdentify, evaluate, and develop external tooling and equipment suppliers as neededLead and coordinate mold design reviews with tool vendorsManage tooling and equipment projects, including mold builds, validation, and large equipment (e.g.

presses, extruders)Coordinate implementation of cost effective tool design changesSupport DFM/FMEA activities internally and with customers and suppliersProvide status reports to management and customers as neededProvide support to project teams as neededPartner cross-functionally to ensure timely project completionCommunicates with customers and suppliers as neededPerforms a variety of complex tasks using experience and judgmentMay lead and direct the work of others in various projects and assignmentsUpholds SPG and DuPont vision and core valuesPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsQUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)Required:Applicable Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience in a related fieldAbility to design tooling and moderately complex silicone partsProficient with SolidWorksProficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook)Well organized, enthusiastic, high energy, strong work ethicSelf-confident and comfortable with ambiguity. Relies on experience to make expert recommendationsWorking knowledge of quality improvement, lean manufacturing methods, statistical process controls, and process capabilityProven track record of developing tooling and equipment for production of high quality, low cost, silicone parts.Medical device backgroundUnderstands Lean manufacturingHas knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within fieldAbility to problem solve identify errors and deficiencies and perform research independentlyAbility to apply knowledge to their job function using pre-established guidelines and instructionsAccuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughnessProficient computer skillsProficient communications skillsA wide degree of creativity and latitudeAbility to comprehend and comply with company safety and quality standardsAbility to follow oral and written instructionsResponsible for understanding and complying with all SPG and Dupont safety policies and procedures.Preferred:Participating member in a professional organization with engineering relevance (for example, ASME, SME, IIE, ISO, ASTM)Machining experience Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience involving specification, procurement, debug, and qualification of tooling and equipment for silicone processing (mill, extrude, mold, bond)Experience in manufacturing or with Medical Devices especially silicone processingExperience with Lean ManufacturingWORKING CONDITIONS:Works under general supervision. Requires light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities.

About 40% of time will require standing and walking on the Production floor, where wearing of protective clothing might be necessary. About 60% of time will be spent working at desk and/or computer.
