Tool & Die MakerThe Tool & Die Maker serves a key function in the operation and on-going maintenance of the high-speed manufacturing equipment that produces aluminum cans at the Sugar Land, Texas manufacturing location. Reports directly to the Plant Engineer.Duties and Responsibilities:Perform work requires a thorough knowledge of machine shop and tool room practices and techniques, properties of various materials, and the principles of application and operations of various types of tools, jigs, fixture and dies.Make repairs or alterations to end and tongue dies including the manufacture of replacement parts as needed.Use precision measuring instruments to assemble, fit, align and adjust parts to very exact tolerances.Manage tooling inventories, setup tool packs, measure precision tolerances and work with assembly set-ups.Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.Set-up and operation of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and other equipment to machine parts.Interact closely with the operations team to plan, trouble shoot and analyze production and equipment issues and concerns and come up with solutions.Run quality checks on product in line with customer requirements.Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:Five-to-ten-year(s) experience in a manufacturing environmentThorough knowledge of working with ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic materials, cutting oils, grinding compounds and other procession materialsProven competency in the use of micrometers, calipers, and related equipmentMust be available to work various shifts if needed and be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime.Preferred Requirements:Associate degree or a vocational or technical certification or a journeyman's card or licenseHigh-speed packaging industry experienceKnowledge of Six Sigma, SPC, and Lean ManufacturingCompetencies:Strong problem-solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approachThe ability to be able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and parts specifications.High competency in the use of micrometers, calipers and related equipmentProven experience with running precision equipment as well as equipment re-build knowledgeAbility to work independently or with a team.Must be able to look at new solutions and "think creatively and strategically" to solve problems.Effective leadership skills such as conflict resolution, communication, decision making, etc.Demonstrated employee relations skills and the ability to motivate people.Excellent time management and project management skills as well as the ability to multi-taskExcellent oral and written communication skillsProven math and computer skills and working knowledge of various Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.)Physical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawlThe associate may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on occasion.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focusThe employee must be able to work up to twelve (12) hours shifts, both day and eveningEmployees will be required to have their own tools.Working Conditions:Most work will be in a plant environment but maybe required to move around to different parts of the manufacturing floor.While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic in the plant.The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures.The noise level is frequently loud.Benefits:CROWN offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits including free company paid health insurance for employees and well as company matched 401(k).Interested:Take the next step in your career and apply online today.What Crown Offers YouStrong engagement and commitment to the safety of our employeesThe opportunity to build a meaningful careerProfessional and personal development through training and work experiencesJoin us and become part of a team of professionals who are passionate about sustainable packaging!Working Together Working Together is one of the five pillars that make up our Twentyby30™ program.
