Testing Engineer-Military EnginesThe Testing Engineer of Military Engines is responsible for ensuring that Rolls-Royce has sufficient oversight for our products to meet business, customer and regulatory requirements. It covers engineers who are performing Development, Systems Engineering and Verification style roles. This is an integration role where the individual will work to enable all engineering teams through coaching and support to successfully develop robust, verified engineering solutions against robust validated customer requirements.Coordinate, prepare and perform diesel engine development, calibration and engineering support work in an engine dynamometer test cell, on HiL/MiL systems and if necessary, in the field.Focus is on diesel engines for military applications.

Depending on the business situation, the same scope of work on commercial heavy-duty diesel engines is expected.Develop, analyze and evaluate unique engineering solutions with consideration of factors such as system effectiveness, reliability, configuration, emission regulations, customer requirements and cost.Coordinate, support and perform commissioning and testing of prototype engines/vehicles and early production units together with the customer and their sub-contractors with regards to our scope for applications including but not limited to wheeled/tracked military vehicles, mining equipment, marine, rail, and oil and gas.Develop technically reasonable and feasible alternatives with regards to time and money for challenges occurring during the progress of the project.Support customers in case of irregularities.Support and troubleshoot field failures.Facilitate communication between customer and different engineering groups.Ability to read and understand controller wiring diagrams and integration including ability to make custom harnesses for vehicle and test benches.Experience at CAN-Bus troubleshooting and monitoring.Provide field support for After Sales and Applications departments whenever complex issues require engineering support.Communicate and consult with Engineering and Design departments worldwide.Provide support for production and train production staff whenever complex issues require engineering support.Maintains daily record of work hours by job number for budgeting & auditing purposesDocument the preparation, execution and analysis of tasks performed according to highest engineering standards.Manage, track and communicate project status and assist in managing project budget and project forecast.Mentor and train less experienced engineersMaintain a clean and safe work environment.Promote a compliance culture and live the latter and the spirit of the Rolls Royce Code of Conduct.Perform special projects as required.At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.Position Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Automotive Engineering and 3 years of engineering experience testing and calibrating combustion engines in a dynamometer test cell and in the field; or 7 years of engineering experience testing and calibrating combustion engines in a dynamometer test cell and in the field.Ability to bend down, stand over, lay down and complete work tasks within the tight confines typical of marine engine compartments and/or engine rooms for long periods of timeAbility to lift, push, pull weights in the 20-60 lb rangeMust be available to work flexible hours including night shifts and weekendsU.S.

Citizenship required as this position occasionally will be working under a government contractAbility to travel 50-80% on short notice domestic and internationalPreferred Requirements:Excellent knowledge of the principles and complete operation of internal combustion engines and diesel engine technologyExcellent experience diagnosing diesel engines in test cells and installed in a vehicleExcellent experience with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components of diesel enginesExcellent knowledge of engine control units and their operationExcellent work and time management skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsExcellent project management skills.Excellent organizational, planning and follow-up skillsExperience with engine-specific instrumentation, data acquisition systems, signal processing and data managementStrong skills in the use of measurement and testing tools for mechanical and electrical systemsStrong knowledge in the physical properties of fuels, coolants, lubricants and oilsStrong ability to adapt to new circumstances quicklyStrong knowledge, experience and skills in installing and repairing diesel engines – especially in confined spacesStrong skills in the use of mechanical and electrical hand toolsVery strong interpersonal skillsMaster's degree in Mechanical, Electrical engineering or related fieldKnowledge of MTU, Daimler, and Detroit Diesel ControllersExperience with ETAS INCA, MTU Diasys and XentryKnowledge of test cell automation systemsExperience working with authorities/military customersMTU product knowledgeWork Conditions:20% cubical workplace (project planning and management, data analysis, coordination of assignment, etc.)80% Test Center (in-house test cell, test cell at a third-party provider, field test site, etc.), shop and field conditions common with working on prototype vessels
