Position Summary
The Test Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the implementation and sustainment of manufacturing test solutions in a high-volume electronics manufacturing environment. This role manages a team of engineers and technicians while driving world-class product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The Test Engineering Manager works closely with various engineering groups, manufacturing, quality, and customers to ensure reliable test solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Test Engineering organization.
- Manage staffing, performance evaluations, training, and succession planning.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Test Strategy & Development
- Lead the design, validation, and deployment of:
- ICT (In-Circuit Test)
- Functional Test (FCT)
- Boundary Scan (JTAG)
- Ensure test coverage meets customer quality and reliability requirements while minimizing manufacturing costs.
Manufacturing Support
- Provide technical leadership to resolve production test failures.
- Improve first-pass yield (FPY), throughput, and equipment utilization.
- Analyze test data to identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methodologies.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead Lean Manufacturing and Improvement projects on:
- Test coverage
- False failure rates
- Cost of Test (CoT)
Customer Support
- Serve as the technical interface for customers regarding manufacturing test solutions.
- Participate in customer design reviews and technical audits.
- Support failure analysis and reliability investigations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with:
- Various Engineering
- Quality Engineering
- Operations
- Customer Engineering
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Master's degree is a plus.
Experience
- 5 years of electronics manufacturing experience.
- 5 years of engineering leadership or management experience.
- Strong background supporting EMS in SMT PCBA and system integration.
Technical Skills
- Manufacturing test development and deployment
- ICT, Functional Test, Flying Probe, Boundary Scan, SLT
- NI LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++, Python, or similar programming languages
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Design for Testability (DFT)
- FMEA, DOE, GR&R, and Root Cause Analysis
