Protection & Control Field Engineer/TechnicianJob RequirementsEducation Requirements:4-year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or4-year BS Degree in Engineering Technology, or2-year Technical Degree in Electrical Maintenance, orEquivalent applicable experience (e.g., Substation Electrician, Technician, Wireman, Electrician, etc.)Experience:P&C Field Services experience preferredExperience in electric power utility transmission construction, maintenance, or operationsRelated substation experience in areas such as:Protection & Control ApplicationsSubstation Design and ConstructionMajor Equipment MaintenanceProject ManagementKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Strong understanding of 3-phase power systems, AC/DC Protection & Control Schemes, and Fault AnalysisFamiliarity with test equipment such as:Voltmeters, Ammeters, OhmmetersCommunication instrumentsComputerized relay test setsProblem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesStrong communication skills for collaboration across workgroups, including customers, field employees, and leadershipProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Other Requirements:Valid driver's license requiredParticipation in callout rotation and availability for outages/abnormal conditions outside of normal work hoursWillingness to travel overnight as neededSafety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment screenings for fitness for dutyPhysical ability to operate manual switches and work in a substation environmentMust live in/near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable distance of the office locationJob Responsibilities and Behavioral AttributesKey Responsibilities:Commission, test, maintain, and troubleshoot protective relaying, controls, and communication equipment associated with substations and transmission power linesComplete construction projects and substation routines without service interruptions, ensuring adherence to quality, schedule, and budget requirementsCoordinate substation outages and commissioning activities with multiple internal and external stakeholdersRespond to trouble calls as neededDevelop and implement safe and efficient work practices to prevent safety and operational incidentsFollow formal written requirements and conduct job briefings to identify and mitigate risksProvide technical expertise in 3-phase power, relaying, SCADA, and substation testing techniquesSafely and efficiently isolate hazards and damaged equipment during emergencies to restore service
