When someone calls 911 on their darkest day, your voice and guidance can make all the difference.Examples of DutiesReceive 911 calls from citizens needing assistanceAdhere to nationally accepted protocols for processing 911 callsManaging distressed callers during intense and high stress situationsProvide potentially life-saving instructions by phone to callersPrioritize calls for dispatch to appropriate first respondersUse advanced computer, phone and radio technology to complete tasksCoordinate with internal and external entities during Emergency OperationsMinimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or GED and one (1) year of experience related to public interaction in a safety, government, or industry program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Typing test of 35 correct words per minute and successful completion of Criticall testing (administered through the County Human Resources Office) are required.

Telecommunicators have the opportunity to progress through three levels of Telecommunicator classification. Progression is based on experience and demonstrated ability and certification in assigned radio channels. Due to the Title 12, Section.0400 – Standards and Certifications for a Telecommunicator changes in 2014 all applicants must meet the following requirements:Candidates shall be a citizen of the United States.Candidates shall be at least 18 years of age.Has never been convicted of a felony.Has not been convicted of a Class B misdemeanor within 10 years.Has no pending or outstanding criminal charges of a Class B misdemeanor or greater.If hired, approximately 8 weeks of classroom training will be conducted during standard business hours. Successful candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment with Cumberland County must pass pre-employment screenings, including criminal history checks and drug screenings, as required by Cumberland County Policies and Procedures, prior to beginning work or receiving a final offer of employment.
