The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Systems Management & Operations, has a full-time vacancy for a Telecommunications Tech II.
Summary:
To perform technical work concerned with equipping, maintaining, and repairing radio and telecommunications equipment, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) field devices, and other technology associated with the statewide Transportation Management Center (TMC).
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience are areas of radio engineering, communications or electronics.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license.
Other Requirements:
1. Applicant's Motor Vehicle record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the hiring agency.
2. Applicant will undergo a criminal background check.
3. Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
4. Must be available to work extended hours during transportation events and/or emergencies as needed..
5. Must be available for call-back as needed.
Trainee Option: None
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the construction, skilled repair or vehicle installation and operation of radio transmitters, telecommunications and/or auxiliary equipment.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must possess or obtain at their own expense within 6-months of employment, a valid General Radio Telephone Operator's License (GROL) as issued by Federal Communications Commission.

Responsibilities:
DETAILED TASKS (STANDARD): None
DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):
Installs, tests and repairs equipment related to the statewide highway radio network, ITS devices and aeronautics electronic navigation aids. ITS devices include, but not limited to, such items as Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS), Changeable Message Signs (CMS), Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) and traffic data collection devices.
Operates a variety of testing equipment for the purpose of troubleshooting new and obsolete communication equipment used throughout the state.
Participates in the evaluation and selection of various highway communication technologies through the preparation of specifications and subsequent testing and acceptance of procured equipment.
Works with other federal & state agencies, municipalities, and others in the installation and maintenance of highway & aeronautics related technology.
Maintains asset management records related to the performance, reliability and maintenance of the technology described above to be used for developing short and long budget strategies.
Maintains a stock inventory of components required for timely repair of DOT field technology.
