Telecommunications MechanicMarathon TS is seeking a Telecommunications Mechanic for a newly awarded contract effort to provide Base Telecom Support at the Puget Sound, WA Shipyard and satellite locations. The effort will provide telecommunications operations and maintenance (O&M). This includes secure and reliable, classified and unclassified, voice and data services in support of Command, Control, Computer, Communications and Information (C4I) operations and exercises.Responsibilities:Install, maintain, and repair outside telecommunications infrastructure, including:Underground and aerial copper/fiber cablingBackbone and distribution systemsConduits, vaults, ducts, and pedestalsPerform:Fiber and copper splicing (fusion and mechanical)OTDR and power meter testingFault isolation and emergency restorationTermination of cables in manholes, handholes, and wiring closetsConduct:Routine inspections and preventive maintenanceDocumentation of cabling routes, splicing records, and test resultsSafety hazard assessments for all work zonesCollaborate with engineers, ISP technicians, and site leadership for infrastructure upgrades and repairs.Other duties as assignedQualifications:Education:High school diploma or GED requiredTechnical trade certification (telecom, electronics, or fiber optics) is highly desirableYears of experience:3–5 years hands-on experience in OSP cabling, preferably on government or large enterprise networksPrior experience working in base or campus-style environments (e.g., DoD, universities, utilities) is idealRequired skills or certifications:Fiber Optic Installer or Technician Certification (e.g., ETA or FOA)Confined Space Entry and Fall Protection training (required for manhole and aerial work)Proficiency with:OTDR, fusion splicer, power metersCable locating equipment and tone generatorsFamiliarity with:Industry standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA)Military base safety and security protocolsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and route mapsIntermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPointAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contactsStrong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a teamPhysical Demands:Must be able to lift up to 50 poundsMust be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of timeMust be able to twist, bend and squat periodicallySECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level.
